Different Types of Food Merchandisers

Foodie Writer · September 3, 2021 ·

Restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores, coffee shops, and cafeterias all have one thing in common. They are all looking for ways to increase sales. One excellent way for them to do this is to add a merchandiser. This could include bakery goods, rotisserie chickens, deli meats, beverages, and much more.

These merchandisers are available in many configurations and sizes with an abundance of features. Starting with the basics is deciding what temperature that is required. For rotisserie chickens, for instance, you would want to use a hot food merchandiser. For refrigerated products, you would need a refrigerated merchandiser. For most cakes and loaves of bread, you would opt for a dry merchandiser. If you are offering a combination of different types of products, combination merchandisers are available.

Another thing to consider is what type of service you are going to offer. Merchandisers are available in both service, where your employees serve your customers their selections, and self-service, where your customers serve themselves. Self-service can make sense for several reasons. One reason is obvious: it saves labor costs if you don’t need an employee at the merchandiser. Another reason is that this type of service promotes impulse buying. Your customer may not have planned to purchase that item, but it was so convenient and attractively displayed that they find it irresistible. As with the different temperatures option, you can even have a combination case where the upper portion is service, and the lower portion is self-service or vice versa.

Another consideration is what features you can add to more attractively display your product or make it even more convenient for your customer to access their selection. Adding LED lighting and/or using a certain color interior finish within your merchandiser can vastly improve the visual effect of your product. Some heated and refrigerated merchandisers are available without the need for your customer to have to open a glass door to reach the product. This is accomplished by having a curtain of air blowing in front of the product preventing the heat or refrigeration from escaping the merchandiser.

As you can see, there is a lot to consider when you are offering your product to your customer, and it is important to put a lot of thought into this decision before you make a purchase. Your sales and profit depend on your making the proper decision. to display their food attractively.
